AI Recommendation Disclosure

Last updated: July 26, 2026

SpendMint uses artificial intelligence (AI) and rule-based algorithms to generate parts of your experience — including receipt extraction, budget routing, coupon and subscription recommendations, Smart Basket scores, miss-risk explanations, and Safe to Spend projections. This page explains how those recommendations are produced and the limits you should keep in mind.

1. Where AI is used

  • Receipt intelligence: a large multimodal model extracts merchant, date, totals, tax, line items, and discounts from receipt photos. Each field is accompanied by a confidence score.
  • Budget routing: models suggest which budget a line item belongs to. You can always change the routed budget from the reconcile sheet.
  • Optimization engines: deterministic algorithms (coupons, subscriptions, bills, baskets) combined with AI for explanation and ranking.
  • Recommendations: confidence-scored suggestions with an explainability panel showing "why", data sources, projected savings, and confidence.

2. What AI is not used for

AI is not used to make credit, lending, insurance, employment, housing, or other consequential decisions about you. SpendMint does not sell your data or your derived AI outputs to third parties.

3. Limitations

  • AI outputs can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date.
  • Confidence scores are estimates of reliability, not guarantees. Low-confidence recommendations are labeled and should be reviewed before acting on them.
  • Projected savings assume current retailer prices and coupon terms; actual savings depend on your behavior and retailer changes.
  • OCR quality depends on the receipt photo. Blurry or partial images produce lower confidence and may require manual correction.

4. Human control

You remain in control. Every recommendation can be dismissed, corrected, or edited. You can give feedback (helpful / not helpful) on each recommendation, which we use to improve confidence scoring and ranking. You can also disable AI-driven surfaces from the Privacy Center.

5. Model providers

We route AI requests through vetted providers (currently Google Gemini via our AI gateway). Providers process the minimum data needed to answer a request and are contractually prohibited from training their foundation models on your personal data.

6. Not financial advice

AI-generated recommendations are informational. Please review our Financial Disclaimer — nothing produced by the AI constitutes personalized financial, tax, or investment advice.
